Catania Dreaming

July 5, 2010
by Owen Lightly

I went to Italy last month and while in Catania on the island of Sicily, I happened upon this bustling market in the centre of town. It was right next to the port, so there was a ton of amazingly fresh fish (I’m sorry to say, a lot of it on the endangered side). It was a wild scene, with whole red tuna hacked up on slabs of marble, overflowing bins of fresh anchovies, twelve different kinds of squid, mountains of mussels, halved swordfish and countless varieties of things I’ve never seen before – all without a refrigerator in sight. Here is a little video of the fish-mongers doing their thing.

    Ciao Owen,
so sorry we didn’t hook up in Rome in the end. It sound like you had a wonderful time, especially if you ended your trip with Sicily, which is one of my favorite Italian regions.
As a matter of fact, a couple months ago I posted about this same Catania fishmarket. You can read the article here

I told a person to come eat at your restaurant in Whistler!

I love this global food networking thing.

    Ciao
    Eleonora
